March 15 marks World Consumer Rights Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about the fundamental rights of consumers and promoting a safer, more transparent, and fair marketplace for everyone.

In this context, InfoCons announces the launch of the “Guide for Purchasing Safe and Reliable Products,” a tool designed for consumers that aims to provide practical information and useful recommendations to help them make informed and safe choices when purchasing products.

Each year, World Consumer Rights Day highlights a theme of major importance for consumers. Product safety is an essential factor in the purchasing process, and proper information is the first step in preventing risks associated with non-compliant or dangerous products.

In this context, InfoCons recommends that consumers pay increased attention when purchasing products and consider several important aspects:

  • checking product labeling and mandatory information regarding the manufacturer, importer, or distributor;
  • reviewing the instructions for use and safety warnings;
  • purchasing products from reliable sources and authorized retailers;
  • verifying the presence of conformity markings and certifications applicable to the product;
  • checking for possible alerts or product recalls available on the market.

ATTENTION! Over the past year, 5,455 alerts regarding non-compliant products were recorded across the following categories: cosmetic products, toys, electrical appliances and equipment, motor vehicles, chemical products, clothing, textiles and fashion items, machinery, childcare articles and equipment, jewelry, sports/recreational equipment, decorative lighting chains, protective equipment, lighting equipment, pyrotechnic articles, kitchen/cooking accessories, decorative items, hand tools, gadgets, furniture, laser pointers, stationery, lighters, gas appliances and their components, communication and media equipment, construction products, pressure equipment/vessels, recreational watercraft, equipment for explosive environments, and measuring instruments.

A useful tool in this regard is the Free InfoCons Consumer Protection App , which is aligned with the theme “Safe Products, Confident Consumers.” The app allows consumers to quickly verify information about the products they intend to purchase and make informed and safe decisions.

This date was chosen in memory of the historic speech delivered on March 15, 1962, by the President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, before the U.S. Congress. In that speech, the fundamental consumer rights were first articulated: the Right to Safety, the Right to be Informed, the Right to Choose, and the Right to be Heard—principles that form the basis of the modern global consumer protection movement and are also recognized as fundamental human rights.

Today, World Consumer Rights Day represents an important moment to reaffirm these rights and to promote a safer and more responsible marketplace for all consumers.
