Earth Day 2026 – Be an Example for Environmental Protection with InfoCons!

Every year, on April 22, Earth Day is celebrated—a moment not only to honor the beauty and richness of our planet, but also to reflect on the environmental challenges we face. First established in 1970, Earth Day emerged from a growing awareness of environmental degradation.

The planet is facing increasing pressure on its natural environment. Ocean pollution with plastic and rising ocean acidity, as well as the intensification of extreme events (heatwaves, wildfires, and floods), affect a significant number of people globally. At the same time, approximately 10 million hectares of forest are lost each year—an area comparable to that of Iceland.

Climate change and human interventions in nature—including deforestation, land-use changes, intensive agriculture, and illegal wildlife trade—contribute to the accelerated degradation of ecosystems. It is estimated that around one million plant and animal species are currently threatened with extinction.

Ecosystem restoration is essential, as ecosystems support life on Earth and help protect human health. A healthy ecosystem reduces the risk of rapid disease spread, with biodiversity acting as a limiting factor in the transmission of pathogens.

Restoring ecosystems can help reduce poverty, mitigate climate change, and conserve biodiversity, but success depends on the involvement of all relevant stakeholders.

In the context of Earth Day, it is necessary to promote the transition to a sustainable economy—one that meets both societal needs and environmental protection requirements—while encouraging a balanced relationship between human activity and nature.

Regarding sustainability, and in the context of ongoing development at both national and international levels, as well as increasing concerns about carbon footprint and the worsening global effects of climate change, consumers must be protected, informed, and educated about the carbon footprint of products and services, as well as everything around us (buildings, offices, homes, highways, streets, etc.). In this regard, InfoCons has launched the first national campaign, in partnership with three public institutions responsible in this field: the Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests, the Ministry of Energy, and the Department for Sustainable Development within the General Secretariat of the Government.
