We live in a time when what we see is not always necessarily true. Visual AI has become so advanced that it can create images and videos that appear authentic but are completely unreal.
We are talking about people who do not exist, statements that were never made, and videos in which faces and voices can be changed within seconds.
The technology behind this is impressive. New algorithms learn from millions of images and can reproduce every detail, from facial expressions to lip movements. This is how deepfakes are created, materials that can deceive even a trained eye.
All of this leads to a decline in our trust in visual information and even in our other senses. A video showing a public figure can trigger controversy. An invented “eyewitness” can fuel misinformation. A virtual influencer can promote any interest without the audience knowing that there is no real person behind it.
The risks are serious, ranging from emotional manipulation to blackmail, fake news, or destroyed reputations. The speed at which such content spreads can become difficult to control.
What can we do? We can verify the source, pay attention to content that is designed to shock, and use tools that detect fake materials, such as Deepware Scanner. Most importantly, we should not share suspicious content before verifying it.
Visual AI is a remarkable technology, but it requires us to be more vigilant than ever. In the digital age, not everything we see is real.
