Dictionary Attacks – How Secure Is Your Password ? InfoCons Consumers Protection in Cybersecurity informs you !
A type of cyberattack that is becoming increasingly common, unfortunately, is known as a dictionary attack, and it raises serious concerns about the security of personal accounts.
It does not rely on complex techniques or sophisticated methods. It exploits a common habit, choosing simple and easy to guess passwords.
Attackers use automated programs that quickly test lists of commonly used words and combinations.
They try everything from classic default passwords like “123456” or the word “password” to names and birth years.
Cybersecurity specialists warn that, in many cases, such passwords can be compromised in just a few seconds. Once access is gained, the consequences become serious. Email accounts can be breached. Social media accounts and groups can be accessed without permission. Financial applications can be exposed, leading to unauthorized transfers.
The problem grows because people reuse the same credentials. If one password is compromised, attackers try to use it to access multiple accounts belonging to the same person.
To reduce risks, experts recommend using long and complex passwords for each account. Avoid including easy to guess information. Enable two factor authentication.
Password manager applications can help you generate and safely store stronger combinations.
In a highly digital world, security starts with simple and normal actions.
A stronger password can make the difference between safety and total compromise of your personal data and private life.
