Official Statement of the European InfoCons Delegation , Delivered by Mr. Sorin Mierlea , President of InfoCons, during the 68th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO
During the plenary session of the 68th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Mr. Sorin Mierlea, President of InfoCons, delivered the official statement on behalf of the European InfoCons delegation, representing Romania as an accredited observer organization.
In its statement, InfoCons highlighted the importance of strengthening the connection between intellectual property protection and consumer protection, emphasizing that consumer information, education, and access to modern digital tools are essential elements in building a society where intellectual property rights are respected and valued.
A key part of the statement was the presentation of the InfoCons App, the world’s first Global Consumer Protection Passport, available in 33 languages. Among its many features, the application provides alerts on products suspected of infringing intellectual property rights. It also includes an Intellectual Property Dictionary, designed to help consumers better understand intellectual property concepts and to contribute to raising the level of consumer information and education in this field.
Through its message delivered during the plenary session, InfoCons reaffirmed that protecting intellectual property and protecting consumers are complementary objectives. In today’s global marketplace, every citizen is, first and foremost, a consumer, and access to accurate, transparent, and easy-to-understand information empowers consumers to make informed decisions, supports respect for intellectual property rights, and strengthens trust in the marketplace.
InfoCons is participating in the WIPO Assemblies as an accredited observer organization, representing Romania and promoting internationally the importance of consumer information and education, as well as the development of innovative digital tools that facilitate access to relevant information for consumers.
The 68th Series of Meetings of the Assemblies of the Member States of WIPO is taking place in Geneva from July 7 to July 15, 2026, bringing together Member States and accredited organizations to discuss the main priorities and future directions of the international intellectual property system.
