Sorin Mierlea , President of InfoCons Consumer Protection , Participates in the UN DESA Event – Inclusive by Design
Mr Sorin Mierlea, President of InfoCons, is participating today, 16 October 2026, in the virtual event “Inclusive by Design: Putting Social Inclusion at the Centre of Economic, Digital, and Energy Transformations,” organised by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs – UN DESA.
The event takes place from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m., New York time / 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., Romanian time, in the context of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, officially observed every year on 17 October.
Drawing on the findings of the “World Social Report 2026: The New Economics of Social Inclusion: Making Transformations Work for All,” the meeting will examine how social inclusion can be placed at the centre of economic, digital and energy transformations.
The discussions will explore practical ideas and solutions for tackling poverty and ensuring that progress creates opportunities for everyone. According to the report, social inclusion should be regarded as an investment and a prerequisite for successful economic, digital and green transformations.
The theme established for 2026–2028, “United for Peace and Human Rights,” highlights the links between poverty, human rights and peace, emphasising the importance of justice, social protection, meaningful participation and respect for human dignity.
The specific focus for 2026, “Safe Homes for All,” draws attention to access to adequate housing as a foundation for a life of dignity. More than 2.8 billion people worldwide face some form of housing inadequacy, with the greatest burden falling on those already experiencing poverty and social exclusion.
On the same day, UN DESA is also organising the official commemoration “United for Peace and Human Rights: Safe Homes for All.” The event will amplify the voices and lived experiences of people affected by poverty and emphasise the importance of developing public policies with people experiencing poverty, rather than simply for them.
The participation of the President of InfoCons in the “Inclusive by Design” event is part of the organisation’s efforts to support fundamental rights, social inclusion and equitable access to essential services. Protecting vulnerable consumers and facilitating access to accurate information are important components of the broader efforts to reduce poverty and social exclusion.
