InfoCons Consumer Protection and the Special Telecommunications Service Continue Their Cooperation by Signing a New Agreement Dedicated to Raising Awareness About the Apel 112 NG Application

InfoCons – European Organization for Consumer Protection, represented by its President, Mr. Sorin Mierlea, and the Special Telecommunications Service (STS) have signed a new agreement to continue their cooperation in informing citizens about the Apel 112 NG application and the responsible use of the 112 Emergency Service.

The partnership aims to carry out joint information and awareness campaigns to provide citizens with clear explanations on how to use the Apel 112 NG application and the situations in which the single European emergency number 112 should be called.

By continuing their cooperation, InfoCons and STS aim to facilitate public access to useful information and promote the responsible use of the 112 Emergency Service. Accurate information can help citizens understand the importance of providing relevant details when requesting assistance in an emergency situation.

InfoCons’ experience in consumer information and awareness, combined with STS’s expertise in managing the 112 Emergency Service, provides a solid foundation for continuing these initiatives in the public interest.

InfoCons – European Organization for Consumer Protection was established in 2003 to address the needs of consumers. Since its establishment, InfoCons has carried out its activities continuously, gaining recognition at both national and international levels. The organization is a member of various organizations, advisory committees, and working groups, and is a partner in national and international programs.

InfoCons is the only organization in Romania with full membership in Consumers International and is involved in the activities of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) Observatory, and ANEC – The European Consumer Voice in Standardisation. InfoCons is also a founding member of the Federation of Consumer Associations.

The Special Telecommunications Service (STS) is the institution responsible for providing secure communications and information technology services to Romanian state authorities. STS operates a complex communications infrastructure and provides modern IT&C solutions.

STS is also the technical and operational administrator of the 112 Emergency Service. Through the single emergency number 112, citizens’ calls are received by STS operators and processed to ensure that the necessary assistance is provided by specialized emergency response agencies.

STS develops digital solutions and tools that support the operation of public services, including the Apel 112 NG application, which facilitates access to the Emergency Service for people with hearing and/or speech impairments.
