Sorin Mierlea , President of InfoCons , is participating in the webinar organized by ANEC

On November 22, 2024, Sorin Mierlea, President of InfoCons, is participating in the online webinar organized by ANEC – The European consumer voice in standardisation, on the online platform Zoom. The webinar’s primary focus is on the challenges that tethered caps pose for consumers in daily life and potential solutions to these issues.

This meeting comes in the wake of a recent study by the DIN Consumer Council ( Germany ), which evaluated consumer perceptions and the usability of tethered caps on beverage containers. Stefanie Scholz, the project manager at DIN, will present the study’s key findings.

The webinar will be moderated by:

  • Michela Vuerich , Lead Programme Manager , ANEC ;

Key points from the DIN Consumer Council‘s study, which will be discussed during the webinar, include:

  • Many consumers feel uninformed about the reasons behind the introduction of tethered caps.
  • Consumers see little to no environmental benefit from the use of tethered caps.
  • The specific needs of consumers regarding tethered caps have not been adequately addressed by the Single-Use Plastics Directive, the relevant standards (DIN EN 17665), or the packaging industry.
  • Certain vulnerable consumer groups experience significant difficulties handling plastic bottles and beverage containers with tethered caps.
  • The design of tethered caps requires further improvement to enhance usability.
