The theme for World Intellectual Property Day 2024 is „IP and the SDGs: building our common future with innovation and creativity”

Every April 26th, World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated with the purpose of understanding how Intellectual Property (IP) rights encourage new ideas and creativity. In 2024, the focus is on how IP helps support the kind of innovation and creativity needed to create a sustainable future. This aligns with the United Nations SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), which act like a guide for making life better for people, ensuring prosperity, peace, and taking care of our planet.

The theme for World Intellectual Property Day 2024 is “IP and the SDGs: building our common future with innovation and creativity”.

World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the global forum for services, policies, information, and cooperation in the field of intellectual property, is the one that sets the annual theme. WIPO is a self-funded agency of the United Nations, with 193 member states, with the mission of developing a balanced and efficient international Intellectual Property system that enables innovation and creativity for the benefit of all.

This theme was chosen to emphasize how using innovation and creativity helps shape a better future for all. World Intellectual Property Day 2024 is centered around celebrating the people worldwide who are leading the way in coming up with new ideas and solutions to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. These goals aim to make the world a better and more sustainable place for everyone. Intellectual property rewards individuals for their unique ideas and original creations, and it creates the environment for businesses and others to invest in developing groundbreaking solutions to overcome challenges.

Intellectual Property (IP) plays a big role in dealing with the big challenges we face globally. A powerful tool that helps with growth and development, it’s important because it helps shape a better future for everyone and for our planet. Innovation and creativity are crucial for human progress, and intellectual property supports the innovation and creativity needed for a better future for everyone.

World Intellectual Property Day 2024 gives us a chance to highlight how IP, along with innovation and creativity, can help us reach the SDGs and benefit everyone.
