UN Climate Change Conference ( UNFCCC COP 29 ) Opening : Key Issues on Day One

The 2024 UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 29) is being held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 11–22. This event includes the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 29), the 19th meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 19), and the sixth meeting of the Parties to the Paris Agreement (CMA 6). These sessions will focus on completing the first enhanced transparency framework and defining a new collective finance goal, among other priorities. The Subsidiary Bodies for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 61) and Implementation (SBI 61) will also meet.

The opening session on November 11, 2024, featured His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, President of COP 28/CMP 18/CMA 5; His Excellency Mr. Mukhtar Babayev, President-designate of COP 29/CMP 19/CMA 6; and Mr. Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC.

The first day of events began with the opening of COP 29, followed by the openings of CMP 19 and CMA 6. This initial plenary session covers key topics on the agenda, including:
