Sorin Mierlea , President of InfoCons , attends the Consumer Policy Advisory Group Meeting

On November 28, 2024, Sorin Mierlea, President of InfoCons, is attending the Consumer Policy Advisory Group meeting held in Brussels, Belgium.

The expert group, known as the “Consumer Policy Advisory Group“, was established by the Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers (DG JUST) of the European Commission with the aim of bringing together representatives from consumer organizations, civil society, and industry to support the Consumer Agenda. The group consists of 42 members, with Romania being represented by InfoCons.

Today’s discussions are moderated by Daniela Bankier, Head of Unit, Directorate-General for Consumer Policy and Sustainability, European Commission, Directorate-General for Justice and Consumers (DG JUST). The agenda for the day includes the following topics:

  • Opening of the meeting and adoption of the agenda
    Isabelle Pérignon, Director for Consumers, European Commission, will officially open the meeting and present the proposed agenda for discussion.
  • New European Commission
    • Presentation of the new College of Commissioners and political priorities
      An overview of the current composition of the European Commission and the new political priorities that will guide initiatives in the coming years will be provided.
  • Consumer Agenda 2025-2030
    • State of play and next steps
      Progress made so far and future steps for the implementation of the 2025-2030 Consumer Agenda will be discussed.
  • OECD study on sustainable consumption
    • Presentation and discussion of preliminary findings
      The study conducted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) will be presented, followed by a debate on preliminary findings and their impact on European policies.
  • 2030 Consumer Agenda: Sustainable Consumption
    • Focused discussion on objectives and actions for sustainable consumption under the 2025-2030 Agenda
      A detailed analysis will be conducted on how the Consumer Agenda can support the transition to more sustainable consumption, with a focus on future measures and actions.
  • Consumer Data
    • State of play of the 2024 Consumer Conditions Survey
      Preliminary results of the 2024 Consumer Conditions Survey, which provides insights into market trends and conditions, will be presented.
  • Digital Fairness Fitness Check
    • Presentation of the Fitness Check report
      A report assessing digital fairness in the context of consumer rights will be presented, examining how well digital platforms adhere to fairness principles.
  • E-commerce platforms originating from third countries
    • Discussion
      Challenges and opportunities posed by e-commerce platforms from outside the European Union will be discussed, along with their impact on European consumers.
  • Consumer Enforcement Initiative
    • State of play
      The progress of the initiative aimed at strengthening the enforcement of consumer protection legislation and the effectiveness of measures implemented so far will be analyzed.
