The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) plays a key role in managing EU trademarks and registered designs, which have jurisdiction across the entire European Union. These rights complement national intellectual property rights and are interconnected with international IP systems. Since 2012, EUIPO has also coordinated the EU Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights and manages the Orphan Works Database.
Every year, the Office processes an impressive volume of applications—over 150,000 trademark applications and 90,000 design applications. In addition, it actively promotes the harmonization of practices among the IP offices of EU Member States through cooperation facilitated by the European Union Intellectual Property Network. By using user-friendly IP tools, this collaboration aims to simplify procedures and improve efficiency.
