InfoCons Consumers Protection in Cybersecurity informs you : Keeping Children Safe Online
The internet is part of our children’s lives. It is a space where they learn, play, explore, and communicate, but just like in the real world, they also need the guidance and protection of an adult in the virtual one.
A first step in protecting children is teaching them not to share personal information, such as their home address, where they study, their phone number, or personal passwords.
They must understand that not everyone online is who they claim to be. Behind a friendly profile there may be someone with inappropriate intentions.
It is important to talk to them about friend requests received from strangers, the photos they send, and the conversations they have behind screens.
Even if someone seems to relate well to their level, children should not start conversations on unverified applications or share details without first talking to an adult in the family.
It is essential for children to understand that not everything they see on the internet is true. Some images, videos, or information may be fake, manipulated, or intentionally created to mislead people.
And perhaps most importantly, we should constantly encourage them to immediately report anything that scares them, makes them feel uncomfortable, or if they receive an inappropriate message. Open communication is the best form of protection.
The virtual world can be safe and full of opportunities when children are guided to behave responsibly.
Parents are the ones who can guide them, support them, and protect them.
Their safety begins with greater awareness!
