The average increase for all food and non-alcoholic drinks over this period was about 31.9%. At +42.2%, eggs rose far more than the typical food product – one of the standout increases in the basket.

Egg prices climbed as the costs of animal feed and energy for poultry farms rose sharply. Feed and heating are major costs in egg production, so when energy and grain prices went up, egg prices followed.
