InfoCons – USVT Delegation Visits University College London (UCL) as Part of the ProEduHub Project
The delegation composed of representatives of InfoCons and the “King Mihai I” University of Life Sciences from Timișoara (USVT) is visiting University College London (UCL) today, 13 July 2026, one of the world’s most prestigious universities. The visit is part of the series of activities taking place in the United Kingdom within the ProEduHub project and marks an important step in bringing young Romanians living abroad closer to academic excellence and to higher education opportunities in Romania.
ProEduHub – Building a Bridge Between the Romanian Diaspora and Higher Education in Romania
ProEduHub is the first initiative launched by InfoCons specifically dedicated to young people in the Romanian diaspora, with the objective of facilitating access to higher education in Romania. It is an educational, informational, and awareness-raising project that highlights the importance of access to education and the role of higher and technical education in improving quality of life and supporting professional development. The platform is primarily addressed to young Romanians who were born or raised outside Romania and aims to facilitate their access to Romanian universities by providing guidance throughout the information, orientation, and application process.
Institutional estimates indicate that between 5.7 and 6.5 million Romanians currently live abroad, while international estimates suggest that between 30,000 and 50,000 Romanian students are pursuing higher education outside Romania. Against this backdrop, ProEduHub seeks to reconnect young people with the Romanian education system while simultaneously promoting Romanian higher education internationally. The visit to the United Kingdom transforms these objectives from an online initiative into direct, face-to-face engagement with Romanian communities, academic institutions, and institutional partners.
Objectives of the Visit to UCL
The visit to University College London aims to strengthen ties between the Romanian and British academic environments, facilitate the exchange of best practices regarding the organization of higher education, and explore potential avenues for future academic collaboration. At a time when student mobility continues to increase, dialogue between Romanian universities and internationally renowned institutions such as UCL plays an essential role in enhancing the visibility and attractiveness of Romania’s higher education system.
For the ProEduHub delegation, the meeting also represents an opportunity to better understand the expectations and needs of young Romanians who are studying abroad or considering international education. These insights will contribute to the further development of the project’s tools—from information and guidance services to internship, practical training, and scholarship opportunities—ensuring they respond more effectively to the realities faced by young Romanians living abroad.
The Delegation: InfoCons and USVT Represented at the Highest Level
InfoCons was represented by its President, Mr. Sorin Mierlea, who coordinates the organization’s national consumer protection initiatives as well as its educational and awareness projects. His presence in London underlines the strategic importance that InfoCons attaches to the ProEduHub project and to strengthening relationships with Romanian communities abroad.
The “King Mihai I” University of Life Sciences from Timișoara (USVT) was represented, among others, by its Rector, Professor Cosmin Alin Popescu. His participation gives the visit a strong academic dimension and reflects the university’s commitment to promoting its educational opportunities among young Romanians worldwide. USVT is an institution recognized for its outstanding achievements in research and innovation, recently acknowledged internationally, providing a compelling argument for students considering pursuing their studies in Romania.
About University College London (UCL)
University College London (UCL) is a public research university located in Bloomsbury, central London, and is one of the founding institutions of the University of London. Established in 1826 and welcoming its first students in 1828, UCL made history as the first university in England to admit students regardless of their religious beliefs and among the first to offer women equal access to higher education alongside men—a tradition of openness and equal opportunity that continues to define the institution today.
UCL consistently ranks among the world’s leading universities and is home to tens of thousands of students from more than 150 countries, making it one of the world’s most international academic communities. Throughout its history, the university has been associated with numerous Nobel Prize laureates and groundbreaking contributions across disciplines ranging from medicine, engineering, and the natural sciences to the social sciences and humanities. Its outstanding academic reputation and international character make UCL a benchmark institution in discussions about the future of education and global student mobility.
Investing in the Future of Young Romanians
The visit to University College London forms part of a broader initiative through which InfoCons and USVT demonstrate to young Romanians living abroad that returning home and pursuing higher education in Romania should not be seen as a compromise, but rather as an opportunity to access competitive universities, high-quality academic programmes, and genuine prospects for professional development.
Through the ProEduHub project, the two institutions reaffirm their shared commitment to supporting access to education, social inclusion, and the development of human capital, while strengthening the long-term connection between Romania and the new generations of Romanians living abroad.
