European Recognition of the Unique InfoCons Consumer Protection Solution at the Plenary Meeting of the European Union Intellectual Property Office – EUIPO Observatory

The European InfoCons App was highlighted as an example of a useful European tool for consumers by Mr Andrea Di Carlo, Deputy Executive Director of the European Union Intellectual Property Office – EUIPO, in his closing remarks at the Plenary Meeting of the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights.

The event took place on 15–16 September 2026 in Alicante, Spain, bringing together representatives of European institutions, national authorities, the private sector, civil society and international organisations.

In his address, Mr Andrea Di Carlo highlighted initiatives and actions benefiting consumers across the European Union, presenting the InfoCons Solution as an example of an information tool that supports consumers. The appreciation expressed during the meeting underscores the importance of access to information about products that may put consumers at risk.

InfoCons, an active member of the EUIPO Observatory, was represented at the meeting by its President, Mr Sorin Mierlea, supporting the representation of consumers’ interests in the European dialogue on intellectual property protection.

The European InfoCons App – an innovative tool for information and prevention

Through the European InfoCons App, consumers can quickly check whether products they intend to purchase are subject to non-compliance alerts issued across the European Union and Türkiye.

Consumers can also identify products flagged as counterfeit in the Alerts section, providing information relevant to both consumer protection and respect for intellectual property rights.

Through its Alerts section, the app provides transparent access to information updated daily on non-food and food products, including:

• product name;
• country concerned;
• risk level;
• product origin;
• date the alert takes effect;
• product image.

This information enables consumers to identify flagged products and review the associated risks before making a purchase.
