Every year on April 26, World Intellectual Property Day is celebrated around the globe to recognize the important role that intellectual property (IP) rights play in encouraging creativity and innovation. It’s a day to spotlight how these rights support creators and fuel cultural and technological progress across every sector of society.
In 2025, the theme focuses on the deep connection between Intellectual Property and music—a form of expression that transcends borders and touches every corner of our lives. Whether it’s the melodies that move us or the lyrics that capture our emotions, music shapes our experiences, and IP is the backbone that supports its creation and distribution.

Music doesn’t just live within its own industry—it flows into film, fashion, gaming, technology, and even consumer products. IP rights make these cross-industry collaborations possible, helping artists and creators share their work, generate value, and inspire innovation across multiple fields. Even when we’re not actively listening, music—and the IP that protects it—continues to influence and energize our daily lives.
World IP Day 2025 puts a spotlight on how IP systems empower those behind the music—songwriters, performers, producers, and innovators—by safeguarding their work and enabling them to turn their creativity into lasting impact. This year’s theme invites us to appreciate how intellectual property encourages the vibrant, evolving world of music and supports the people who bring it to life.
