Shaping Climate Solutions through Human Development at COP29

The second week of COP29 begins today, with a strong focus on Human Development, Children and Youth, Health, and Education. Tackling climate change demands a comprehensive, whole-of-society approach, with a spotlight on creating healthier, more educated, and better-skilled communities—particularly among the youth. For the first time, COP29 will host a dedicated Human Development Day, offering a holistic perspective that sees human development, health, education, and youth empowerment as deeply interconnected. Each of these themes will also be treated as critical standalone priorities, reflecting their unique significance in building a resilient and sustainable future.

The day’s agenda includes a series of high-level discussions on investment in human development, health, and job creation. A significant highlight will be the launch of the Baku Initiative on Human Development for Climate Resilience, an ambitious new framework aimed at fostering integrated, people-centered climate solutions. This initiative will emphasize the vital role of human capacity and well-being in achieving effective and equitable climate action.
