e101 Riboflavin

Food additive in the category of natural colorants. It gives a yellow color and it is allowed to be used in any type of food (alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, meat products, milk, eggs, vegetables, fruits, cereals, sweets etc.), according to the quantities provided by their recipes. It is not allowed in foods meant for infants and young children. In foods it can be found as the E101(i)-Riboflavin additive or E101(ii)-Riboflavin-5 Sodium phosphate which sometimes appears as E106. Riboflavin or Vitamin B2 is naturally present in foods such as milk, eggs, livers and vegetables/fruits. The commercial product is obtained from yeasts, but it can also be obtained synthetically. It is a yellow colorant, hardly soluble in water, which constricts its uses.
