It is an organic compound, found as a slightly viscous liquid, with sweet taste and odorless, also known as antigel. It is used in the tobacco indistru, in cosmetics, in medical applications, but it is also especially used as a solvent for flavors and colorants. In foods that are ready for consumption it is not allowed to have a quantity higher than 3g/kg, and in beverages is not allowed to have a quantity higher than 1g/l. It can also be found on the market in the composition of essences of rum, vanilla, lemon etc., where it is used as a solvent of those flavors.
