e959 Neohesperidine Dc

Food additive with flavor enhancing and sweetening role. It is obtained by chemical processes from neohesperidin, which is a natural compound (flavonoid) and it is found in bitter oranges (Citrus aurantium). It is, depending on the substance concentration, from 400 up to 1800 sweeter than sugar. For food use, there are usually used preparations with a sweetening capacity of 400-600 times, often in combination with other sweeteners, that act synergistically. Neohesperidine DC is frequently used in medication, because of its capacity to reduce bitter taste. It is also appreciated in foods because it enhances and modifies natural flavors and is stable at high temperatures and in low pH. Thus, it is added in non-alcoholic beverages based on water, milk or fruit juice, in beers and other alcoholic beverages. Quantities of 50 mg/kg are used in desserts based on cocoa, milk, eggs, fats, cereals, fruits, in confectionery, pastry and bakery products, in preserved fruit products, in soups, sauces, salads, mustard etc. In special products for wight control, in preparations administered under medical supervision and in some nutritional supplements, neohesperidine DC is added in quantities of 100 mg/kg, and chewing gum and drops can contain 400 mg/kg
